Review: Merengue Festival in Puerto Plata
PUERTO PLATA The perimeter of the boardwalk in Puerto Plata ranging from the Long Beach to the entrance to the old Hotel Montemar, Friday night turned into an ocean of people enjoying the first night of the Festival of Merengue & Caribbean Rhythms by Brugal 2015.
This traditional art show that takes place every year under the auspices of the liquor company Brugal, and the Ministry of Tourism, presented free of charge for citizens of Puerto Plata and other communities of the North Coast to the best artists of the merengue, salsa and urban genre.
When the clock struck exactly 8:15 pm presenters Antonio Heredia and Milton Cordero (Lechuga) got onto the giant stage where they were welcomed by the public, soon after that the Folkloric Ballet gave their performance, and then continued with the presentation of the super salsa band; Chiquito Team Band, whose excellent sound and very recognizable songs made people dance to the contagious rhythm.
Also, the cry clamor of the public had its peak when the stage was taken by Hector Acosta (El Torito) who with his peculiar way of interpreting merengue, bachata and other musical rhythms with the back of his magnificent orchestra led by renowned bassist Isaiah Lecler and other known musicians.
El Torito got people going with contagious merengue “the Party Started,” “The big woman”, “No no Merengue Festival” to continue with the pace of bachata songs: “If you were,” “The Ring “and ended his presentation with a medley of meringues that once were hits in the early 80′s.
The artistic presentation last night was in charge of the new school which were presented by the DJ Rafelito (Rafael Carvajal), who managed to turn the large turnout of young people who sang every one of his songs.
