Remains of US businessman identified in Dominican Republic
SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Authorities in the Dominican Republic have identified the remains of an expatriate U.S. businessman missing since November 2014 and plan to file charges against two people suspected of involvement in his death.
Prosecutors in Puerto Plata say the remains of Brent Renault Lewis were identified through DNA nearly six months after they were found in woods in the province of Espaillat.
Lewis lived in the Dominican Republic and was owner of the Perla de Sosua hotel in the beach town of Sosua.
Prosecutor Osvaldo Bonilla said Wednesday that homicide charges will be filed against a Dominican who is a former hotel employee and against a U.S. citizen. They are suspected of killing the victim to take over ownership of the hotel.
