Punta Cana gets high grades from MasterCard
Santo Domingo.- Punta Cana, Dominican Republic’s leading tourism region is fourth among the 10 Latin America and Caribbean cities that receive the highest number of international visitors.
Lima, Mexico City and Sao Paulo pace the ranking, according to the MasterCard study ‘Global Destination Cities Index conducted in 132 cities in 2015.
Punta Cana is the only city in Dominican Republic among the top 50 global destinations, and is expected to receive a 2.42 million international visitors this year, or 4.1% more than in 2014.
It said the coastal town in Dominican Republic’s east region also emerges as the only Dominican destination among the world’s 50 most visited cities, right between Sao Paulo and Chicago.
MasterCard adds that Punta Cana and Dominican Republic ranks first in spending by international visitors.
