Protesters got assaulted by Police during demonstration for four-lane highway Puerto Plata – Navarette
PUERTO PLATA Inexplicably a group of police officers assaulted with shots and tear gas the protesters – representatives of the Committee of Harbor and all transportation organizations in the province, who today held a peaceful meeting demanding the construction of four-lane road Puerto Plata – Navarrete, among other projects that have been promised by the central government but never yet fulfilled.
President of Puerto Plata Committee; businessman Jose Polanco expressed his regrets with the Police actions against the protesters who were peacefully acting in their constitutional rights, but got attacked by Police agents.
The secretary of the bus line Javilla Tours; Jhonny Vargas said that today all carriers from Puerto Plata stopped their activities because of the protest at the crossroads of Imbert.
Similarly, Deputy José Ignacio said: “That aggression of the National Police is wrong, because Puerto Plata deserves a better treatment, and throwing gas bombs and shots are not going to stop demands for building four-lane road Puerto Plata-Navarrete, since on the current road many people keep dying in accidents.
