Police agents get RD$50,000 for turning down bribe
Major General Manuel Castro Castillo has awarded three policemen RD$50,000 each and a promotion for rejecting a bribe for the same sum when they arrested two men in possession of drugs.
Major Morales Peralta, Cabo Felix Alberto Luna and private Joel de los Santos received the checks from Major Castro at a ceremony at the National Police headquarters yesterday, Sunday 31 May 2015.
Major General Castro said that on Saturday 30 May 2015 the men stopped 23-year old John Vargas and a 15-year old male, whose name was not disclosed, in Calle Jardines in Los Jardines del Norte in Santo Domingo and found 169 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana, two cell phones and cash. The individuals were driving a moped. The agents were offered RD$50,000 in return for letting them go, but the patrol rejected their offer, said Castro.
