Plantain prices drop after imports announced
The media says that plantain prices have been dropping on local markets after the government’s 9 October 2015 announcement that it would import plantains. Plantains are now being sold for RD$10 to RD$15 per unit, down from prices of RD$25 each less than a month ago. Plantains normally sell for RD$7 per unit. Traders attributed the decrease to people not buying the plantains because of the high prices. Imported plantains have yet to arrive in local markets.
