Pitcher Francelis Montas becomes 653rd Dominican in major leagues
Santo Domingo.- Pitcher Francelis Montas debuted in the majors Wednesday and became the 653rd Dominican in major league rosters. He´s also the first player of Santo Domingo´s Leones to make their first appearance in Major League Baseball this season.
“Frankie” pitched the 8th inning for the Chicago White Sox, which lost to the Minnesota Twins 3 to 0.
The right-hander retired the three batters he faced, starting with striking out fellow Dominican Miguel Angel Sano.
Montas was brought up from the minor leagues on Tuesday, as part of the late-season expansion of the team rosters from 25 40 players.
His record was 5-5 with 2.97 ERA in 23 starts for the White Sox Double A Birmigham Barons, of the Southeastern League.
