Ottawa man found safe in Dominican Republic
An Ottawa man who ran into the rainforest in the Dominican Republic earlier this week while visiting the island with his family has been found, his family says.
A post on a Facebook page devoted to searching for Patrick Brown, 37, said Patrick phoned his brother, Gordon Brown, late Saturday afternoon.
“He’s been found and is enroute to his family there,” the post read. The post didn’t provide any further information, but thanked everyone for their help in the search.
Brown, who goes by the professional name Pat Brainwerx and is a well-known disc jockey in Ottawa, had been missing since Monday. He was on vacation with his parents at a resort in Puerto Plata.
According to reports from the Dominican Republic, Brown was taking a tour of the rainforest near the town of Guananico on Monday when he bolted away from the guide and headed into the dense forest alone.
The guide returned to the closest town to alert police to the bizarre situation. Police then alerted the man’s family, who immediately began searching for him. Brown had taken survival training with the Cameron Highlanders and locals reported finding campsites in the forest where he had made a bed of leaves and collected fruit to eat.
