One police officer killed and four persons injured on the first day of the strike in the Central Cibao

SALCEDO, HERMANAS MIRABAL.A private of the National Police is dead and four persons wounded by gunshots is the result of the first day of the strike in several communities of the Central Cibao in rejection of the sentences for dismissal (No Ha Lugar) which favored Senator Felix Bautista and the Mayor of San Francisco de Macoris, Felix Manuel Rodriguez, as well as in demand of the construction of community projects.

The fatality was identified as Anderson Guzman, a private in the National Police, killed by a gunshot to the head in the middle of a shooting conflict in Salcedo.

Among the injured reports listed Vladimir Silverio, 34, Eddie Junior Valerio Gerardino, 43 and a 15-year-old boy, whose name is not revealed because of legal reasons, who were wounded by gunshots in San Francisco de Macoris.

In the meantime, in Bonao, young Juan Francisco Fernandez was wounded and had to be hospitalized at the Saint Vincent de Paul Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention. As a result of this incident, the Southern Cibao Regional Commander suspended Corporal José Francisco Saldaña until the investigations are concluded.

Yesterday in places such as Salcedo, San Francisco de Macoris, Bonao, Navarrete and other communities of the region, demonstrators took to the streets in rejection of the judicial sentences that favored the Senator for the province of San Juan de la Maguana, Felix Bautista, and the Mayor of San Francisco de Macoris, Felix Manuel Rodriguez, accused of committing acts of corruption.

In addition, the demonstrators demanded the construction of infrastructure projects, such as the paving of the streets.

In those towns, the business sector and public transportation were practically non-existent, while the main streets were jealously guarded by police agents.

The strike ends tomorrow Thursday at 6:00 a.m.
