NGOs show up to support undocumented migrants
Throughout the 18 months of the duration of the National Foreigner Legalization Plan (PNRE) that offered free regularization to foreigners who could prove they had been living in the DR before October 2011, non-governmental agencies were mute. Now with the end of the PNRE they are coming forth to protest the implementation of the Immigration Law.
Amnesty International says that people without identity documents cannot be deported, and those who are deported must be given the opportunity to appeal their cases in the local judiciary. Amnesty International rejects the confirmation of Dominican nationality by jus sanguinis by Constitutional Ruling 168-13, as previously established by the Supreme Court of Justice.
