MP pursues 14 for forest fires
SD. The Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Dominguez Brito, reported that measures of coercion were imposed on three persons accused of causing forest fires and there are 14 outstanding warrants for the arrest of an equal number of persons.
He reported that the Court of Instruction in the jurisdiction of San Jose de Ocoa ordered one month of preventive custody, and Mario Troncoso Castillo and José Gregorio Rivera were sent to the jail at Kilometers 15 in Azua, and a bail bond for the appearance of Francisco Antonio Lachapelle was accepted. The Attorney General said that there are two requests for coercive measures pending and these will be heard today and on the 12th of this month in San Jose de Ocoa.
Likewise, he announced that there were 14 arrest warrants issued in the localities of the Restauracion, Constanza, Santiago Rodriguez, Hato Mayor, Samana, Monte Plata, Dajabon and Peravia.
“If the judges grant the requests for preventive custody that we have asked for against these criminals, they are going to the jails of Kilometer 15 of Azua; they’re going to La Victoria or to Najayo,” he said during a press conference together with the chief prosecutor of the Ministry of Environment, and Francia Calderon, the head Specialized Prosecutor for Environment and Natural Resources, and the state prosecutors assigned to that ministry, José Espinal Beato, and Carmen Nuñez de Rutinel.
He called the cases of forest fires “criminal” and he warned that they would ask for preventive custody against all those involved in this crime.
“Something is happening in the Dominican Republic that is extremely serious, which is other forest fires, many of them started by criminal hands, so that we will request preventive custody against all those who are involved.” He stated that the persons who are making charcoal will be arrested, among them Haitian citizens.
