Motorists beware of peril on the busiest Duarte highway
Santo Domingo.- The lack of efficient maintenance on the Duarte highway, Dominican Republic´s busiest motorway puts motorists at risk.
Several spans of the highway which links the north region with the capital lack the safety railings, from Santo Domingo to the La Vega exits.
Despite being one of the country´s most dangerous highways, where many people have lost their life in wrecks, lack adequate protection along the shoulders, many right next to steep gullies.
Outlet elcaribe.com.do reports that median dividers have been removed at strategic places next to bridge abutments at around 28 kilometers north of the capital, near the town Pedro Brand.
Despite the new railings recently installed along some spans, more work is needed to improve the safety on the Duarte´s 270 kilometers, including the span from Santiago to Montecristi, called the Balaguer highway.
