Monchy Fadul: “We are prepared to apply the Law”
SANTO DOMINGO. The Minister of Interior and Police, José Ramon Fadul, warned that the country has everything prepared in order to begin the application of the Migration Law starting on 16 June, as has been established by President Danilo Medina.
Being careful of using the term “repatriation,” the official insisted that there would be no extension for any and all foreigners in an irregular immigration condition to come to terms with the immigration requirements.
The official reported that as of now there are 181,343 foreigners who have registered in the National Plan of Normalization and that by Law 169 – 14, which establishes the special regimen for those born in the Dominican Republic and registered irregularly and now seeking naturalization, there are 7860 registered in group B and that of this number some 4,000 cases have already been processed.
Fadul called on all the institutions and agencies, businesses, unions and nongovernmental organizations that want to help foreigners in their irregular condition and to normalize the situation to carry this out within the deadline.
“I do not call it repatriation, they will return to their country of origin,” he said.
When he was told that many will not do this voluntarily, the official said: “well, whoever is not within the immigration laws, will have to go to his country of origin, and in order to return to this country, he will have to come by means of the procedural mechanisms which our immigration law provides,” he emphasized.
The National Plan of Normalization of Foreigners began last 2 June in 12 Governor’s offices around the country, at a cost of RD $1 billion pesos.
