Major fire in Boca Chica
A warehouse that was used to supply goods to supermarkets was almost completely gutted by fire on Monday, 25 May 2015 in Andres, Boca Chica, with losses estimated in millions.
The fire broke out in the Amigos Supermarket warehouse on the corner of Jose Francisco Pena Gomez and 27 de Febrero streets when the electricity came back on and destroyed several types of products including alcoholic drinks, tinned goods, salamis and ham.
According to company administrator Francisco Elias Rodriguez, there was an explosion in one part of the warehouse when the electricity returned after a power cut and the flames quickly spread. He said that they called the local electricity company, Ede-Este in Boca Chica, but they did not respond.
The mayor of Boca Chica sent two fire trucks that extinguished the blaze before it spread to other businesses and homes.
A fire brigade official said that they would investigate the cause of the blaze but Rodriguez said he is holding Ede-Este responsible for the fire and their losses.
