Local airports handle 11.5M passengers, a 9.54% jump
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) director Alejandro Herrera on Sunday said the country exceeded International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regional growth projection of 8.9% in 2014, carrying 11.5 million passengers, for a 9.54% growth.
He presented IDAC’s plan for 2015 FAA, which he affirms is focused on discipline, hard work and reaching the targets set for civil aviation
Herrera also revealed that Punta Cana ranked sixth among Latin American airports with the most passengers from European destinations in 2014, surpassed only by Cancun, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo.
He said Santo Domingo’s Las Americas ranked ninth in passengers from US cities, surpassing major airports such as Bogotá’s.
Herrera, speaking during a meeting with senior IDAC officials, said the efforts to meet the goals will continue this year with the slogan “do what we do well better,” by training technical and administrative staff, and work to ensure that air travel is safer and more profitable every day.
