June 1 is the official beginning of the hurricane season 2015 for the North Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean

The director of Onamet, Gloria Ceballos, said that the season which will end on 30 November, will have few tropical cyclones forming according to the latest models which were run with respect to the conditions of the East Equatorial Pacific, which show that the atmospheric phenomena known as El Niño is in a weak phase with tendencies to moderation.
This year the alphabetical order of the storm names will be the following: Ana, Bill, Claudette, Danny, Erika, Fred, Grace, Henri, Ida, Joaquín, Kate, Larry, Mindy, Nicholas, Odette, Peter, Rose, Sam, Teresa and Wanda. Only three of them will reach a hurricane status.
Ceballos explained that El Niño could be present during nearly all of the summer until the end of the season, limiting the development of hurricanes and other atmospheric phenomena in the North Atlantic.
Anyway, the director of meteorology assured reporters that they are prepared to maintain the institutions of civil protection as well as the population in general well-informed in case a tropical cyclone should threaten the Dominican Republic.
