Interpol raids across the Americas
Interpol has announced that counterfeit goods with a value of around US$60 million have been decommissioned in a series of more than 2,000 raids across the United States and the Caribbean.
The operation was called Maya II and took place between 15 and 31 March in Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, United States and Venezuela.
In the Dominican Republic they confiscated more than 100 sacks of charcoal at the Haitian border and closed down two illegal detergent production factories.
In El Salvador they arrested one of the most wanted criminals linked to the traffic of illegal goods, in Colombia they intercepted more than 1,600 fake bottles of insecticide and in Cuba they found hundreds of boxes ready to be filled with cigars.
