Humpback whale spotted near Sosúa
Last weekend some humpback whales have been spotted for the coast of Sosúa. Water sports enthusiasts who made a trip with the Tip Top Tour catamaran saw some whales swimming very near the boat.
They swam so close to the very carefully sailing boat that all passengers had a good view of the whales. Especially the powerful tails that came down with force into the water, were impressive. It’s mating season for humpback whales. The humpback whales come from the North Atlantic Ocean to the shores of the Dominican Republic this time of the year to mate and give birth to their young. But where they can be seen in large numbers, in the National Park ‘Los Haitises’ at the peninsula of Samaná. It is truly exceptional to see the humpback whale so close to the coast of Sosúa.
