Heart disease increases
Dominican Cardiology Society president Dr. Carmen Encarnacion has expressed concern at the increase in the rates of heart disease in the country. She appealed to the ministries of Health, Education, Culture and Sport to become involved in order to try and slow down the increase by educating the public and raising awareness about the measures people should adopt to prevent the illnesses.
Encarnacion said that over the last decade 3,000 people died every year due to cardiovascular problems but in 2015 that number has doubled. She said that they are also seeing an increase in patients suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems and cerebro-vascular diseases, all of which are risk factors.
