Hearing against Father Alberto Gil set for March
SANTO DOMINGO. The Regional Court in Wolomin, Poland, set for next March, the criminal hearing against the former priest Wojciech (Alberto) Gil, accused of sexual assault against several Dominican minors in the community of Juncalito, Santiago.
The information was released yesterday by the Attorney General of the Republic, after being notified by Polish authorities.
The trial will be held on 20 and 25 March and will continue on 10 and 24 April of this year.
The Dominican authorities, headed by the Attorney General of the Republic, Francisco Dominguez Brito and the head prosecutor of Santiago, Luisa Liranzo, where notified of the decision through the Department of International Cooperation of the Polish prosecutor’s office.
Dominguez Brito and Liranzo have worked together with their counterparts from Poland with whom they met recently in that country, in the prosecution and indictment of the crimes tied to Gil.
It will be recalled that last November the Regional Prosecutor of Warsaw presented an indictment against Alberto Gil for the commission of 10 crimes, including several that allegedly violate the sexual freedom of Dominican minors, who lived in the community of Juncalito, in the province of Santiago, where he carried out his work as a priest.
In the indictment which was presented against Alberto Gil, he is accused of the alleged violation of article 200, paragraph 1, of the Polish Penal Code and other regulations.
Through a press communiqué, the Dominican authorities stressed the efforts by Poland to judge the defendant, while at the same time they said that they were confident that in this case justice would prevail.
In the country, at least three families have filed complaints against the former priest Gil for the alleged abuse of the minors at the office of the District Attorney of Santiago, which is headed by Liranzo. The former priest managed to leave the country and was arrested by Polish authorities, where he is being held in prison.
