Guillermo Moreno: PLD Staying in government to keep stealing
In a comment posted to his Twitter account yesterday, Sunday 19 April 2015, the president of the Alianza Pais party, Guillermo Moreno said that the PLD has the need to stay in power “to keep on stealing,” as reported in Hoy. He accused the party of becoming the country’s public enemy number one after learning of the party’s decision to back a bid to change the Constitution to allow for President Danilo Medina’s re-election.
On Sunday, 19 April 2015, 23 of the 35-member PLD Political Committee approved sending a motion for approval of re-election to Congress. The 2010 Constitution had been changed to allow for former President Leonel Fernandez to run again.
In an interview published in El Dia, Moreno says that he decided to get involved in politics after noticing that writing in the media was not enough to bring changes needed. He said he would focus on strengthening institutions, creating good jobs, quality education, road and citizen safety, environmental protection and a functional health system if he was elected President in 2016.
The party is awaiting the restoration of its recognition to take part in the 2016 election. He said Alianza Pais was the first political party to submit its paperwork.
