Government has become too big

An editorial in Diario Libre today, Friday 22 May 2015 states that the Dominican government plays an omnipresent role in national life. It comments that its reporters recently noticed the large number of trucks involved in distributing products for government social programs. “The Dominican government has penetrated all the activities of Dominican daily life in such a way that it almost does not leave space for private initiative. These activities are carried out under the guise of assistance to the poor that often does not go beyond political philanthropy. Hence the heavy taxes paid by taxpayers and the limitations on job creation that block the development of new generations,” writes the editorialist. The writer goes on to ask: “Why study if there is no chance of finding a job at the end of a university course? The best government is the smallest government, say the wise.”

I agree it is a wise leader who will reduce a government’s size but it usually gets bigger.
