French pilots are just two of 7,000 justice fugitives
The two recently escaped French pilots Jean Pascal Fauret and Bruno Odos are just two of more than 7,000 fugitives of Dominican justice, who have skipped the system after having been favored with bail instead of preventive custody.
According to the Attorney General office (Departamento de Profugos Rebeldes y Condenados de la Fiscalia), the number of fugitives is at 7,339 this year, including 22 international arrest warrants through Interpol.
From 2004 to 2013, examinatory courts of the National District had declared 8,250 persons had skipped justice according to the database of the Supreme Court of Justice.
The French pilots surreptitiously left the country leaving behind their passports, deciding not to sit for the appeal to their 20-year conviction for piloting the small jet that would have transported 26 suitcases packed with cocaine.
They are now under arrest in France as the French judiciary investigates other matters in the so-called Air Cocaine criminal case.
