Fourteen minors escape from jail in La Vega
LA VEGA. Fourteen minors incarcerated in the Doctor Maximo Antonio Alvarez Preparatory Institute, in La Vega, escaped from the jail yesterday afternoon, reported the judicial authorities.
The prosecutor for the court of Boys, Girls and Adolescents of the Judicial District of La Vega, Magistrate Ramon Jacobo Vazquez, said that the adolescents achieve their objective after fooling security and breaking through the main door of the center.
In his efforts to escape, one of the inmates was hit by a car when he tried to cross the Duarte Highway between La Vega and Bonao.
The minor, whose name was omitted for legal reasons, is hanging between life and death at the Professor Juan Bosch Trauma Hospital, in the community of El Pino, La Vega.
In the meantime another seven of the young man were nabbed by agents of the National Police and are at the local Police headquarters.
The young men that broke out of the Institute are accused of committing different criminal acts. Police agents and members of the Army of the Dominican Republic continue to spread out through different points of the city in search of the six remaining inmates who, since yesterday at about 4:00 in the afternoon, escaped from the Preparatory Institute for Minors.
On the Garcia Godoy Avenue, a few meters from the Concepcion de La Vega Fort, where the center is located, dozens of curious came by to look at the scene.
