Four Bulgarians arrested suspected of ATM scams in Sosua
The Police High Tech Crimes division (Dicat) has announced the arrest of four Bulgarians at a bank branch in Sosua, Puerto Plata province. The Bulgarians were allegedly caught in the process of installing “malicious” gadgets in automated teller machines to carry out scams. They were named as Georgi Pirulev, Ivan Kalotavi, Miroslav Anastasov and Lilazko Raikov, as reported in Hoy. The Dicat says they suspect they are the same people who have being carrying out bank scams over a six-month period, mainly in the provinces of Puerto Plata and La Altagracia (Punta Cana).
When arrested they were found to be in possession of several devices suspected of being used to violate the security of the ATMs, including 22 bank cards, 12 of which were blank.
