Expo Mango 2015 in Bani in June
Minister of Agriculture Angel Estevez recently announced that the annual Expo Mango 2015 Fair would be held on 11-14 June in Bani, in the southwestern province of Peravia.
The fair promotes the mango production, processing, marketing and consumption to both domestic and international markets.
The minister said that mango exports had contributed more than US$17 million to the Dominican economy in 2014 and said that the country could increase production by more than 1000% in the next few years.
He said that the current annual exports of 2.5 million boxes could be increased to 25 million boxes, because of the country’s favorable weather conditions and geographical location.
As well as being a business forum for promoting exchanges between all the sectors involved in mango production, marketing and processing, Expo Mango 2015 is aimed at promote ecotourism attraction in Bani, known as the country’s mango capital.
At the meeting, the Minister of Agriculture was accompanied by Deputy Minister Leandro Mercedes, and Laura Naut, International Cooperation Director at the ministry.
Dominican Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Research (IDIAF) director Rafael Perez Duverge, Mango Cluster (PROMANGO) president Rafael Leger, Expo Mango 2015 president German Baez, and mango producers from several parts of the country also attended the meeting.
