DR loses to Japan, defeats Cuba in FIVB World Cup
The Dominican Republic women’s volleyball team lost to Japan in a FIVB World Cup highly contested three-hour match that ended 2-3 games in Tokyo, Japan. The DR is now ranked in sixth place of 12 teams, behind Russia, USA, Japan, China and Serbia. The DR is next scheduled to play Serbia.
Previously, the DR defeated Cuba in the FIVB Women’s World Cup taking place in Tokyo. The DR won 3-1 (22-25, 22-25, 25-18, 23-25) in the first round of the championship. The win was especially important because Cuba is the main regional rival in the quest for a slot in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Earlier, the DR defeated Kenya, Argentina and lost to Russia.
