DR loses to Germany in Davis Cup
Germany defeated the Dominican Republic three points to one in the Davis Cup playoffs held last weekend, 19-20 September 2015 at the Parque del Este tennis courts in Santo Domingo East.
The only point scored by the Dominican tennis team was by Victor Estrella in his first game against the German player.
With the crowds in his favor, top Dominican tennis player 35-year old Victor Estrella (ATP ranking 57th), Estrella defeated 30-year old Dustin Brown (ATP ranking 108th) of Germany in the opening game on Friday, 18 September 2015. In a hard-fought game in the blazing heat, Victor Estrella went 6-4, 5-7, 7-6, 6-6, 7-5. The game took 3 hours and 4 minutes.
The second match on Friday featured Germany’s top player, Philipp Kohlschreiber (ATP ranked 34th), against Jose Hernandez Fernandez (ATP 200th) for the Dominican Republic.
Kohlscreiber won the match 3-0 (1-6, 3-6, 1-6).
Dominicans also lost the doubles matches when Estrella (doubles ranking 168th) teamed up with Hernandez (doubles ranking 432nd) to match Kohlschreiber (doubles ranking 437th) and Petzchner (ATP doubles ranking 54th) 3-0 (3-6, 2-6, 3-6).
In the fourth match, Estrella lost to Kohlscreiber 3-0, with scores of 4-6, 1-6 and 2-6. In a final match, Roberto Cid (ranked 928th) was defeated by Benjamin Becker (ranked 73rd) 4-6, 6-7(4)
This was the first time that the DR has played in the Davis Cup playoffs.
