DR advances to semis at the Pan Am Volleyball Cup
The Dominican national women’s volleyball team has made the semifinals of the 14th Women’s Volleyball Pan American Cup after defeating Canada yesterday, Tuesday 16 July 2015 in three straight sets (25-19, 25-22, 26-24) at the Eduardo Dibos Coliseum in Lima, Peru.
The win guaranteed the Dominican team a slot in the next year’s FIVB World Grand Prix.
The best scorers for the Dominican Republic, Yonkaira Pena and Brayelin Martinez finished with 14 and 13 points respectively. Tabitha Love and Lucille Charuk led Canada with 13 and 10 points with Charuk registering a match-high seven blocks.
The Dominican win is also attributed to fewer unforced errors committed by their players; 14 compared to 29 by the Canadians. Both teams finished with five aces with three by Pena.
