Dominicans get a tough win in World Volleyball round

Tokyo.- Gina Mambrú led the Dominican Republic Monday morning to get its first victory in the first round of the Women’s World Cup Volleyball FIVB, 3-0 (28-26, 26-24, 25-17) over Kenya at the Yoyogi National Stadium.

Mambrú led the scoring with 17 points while Kenya´s Miercy Moim´s 15 headed the losing cause. The Dominicans topped the Kenyans in blocks, services, and attacks 50-37.

Dominican Republic jumped ahead with a 4-1 lead in the first set, but Kenya was quick to react to close the gap at 5-4. Kenya continued to lead with a service point in the first timeout 8-7.

Despite the stiff competition, Dominican Republic went on to the win.
