Dominican wins Microsoft Office World Championship
A student from Don Bosco high school in Santo Domingo, Manuel Sebastian Lopez Burgos has won first place in Microsoft Office 2010 in the 14th Certiport Microsoft Office specialist World Championship organized by Certiport in Dallas, Texas in August. Pearson Vue announced the winner from Dallas. 160 students from around 800,000 from 47 countries participated in the final round. They took tests to demonstrate their capacity to create documents, spreadsheets and presentations in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Entering its fourteenth year, the global Microsoft Office competition provides a platform for students to test and showcase their skills on Microsoft Office applications. Although only a select few progressed to the World Championships in Dallas Texas last month, the competition rewards every participant: helping students gain the upper hand in today’s competitive academic and professional marketplace.
Burgos was one of the top six student competitors at the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship Student Awards Ceremony at the Gaylord Texan Grapevine Resort in Dallas, Texas. He received a US$5,000 scholarship.
