Dominican Republic’s biggest company to boost tiny town’s tourism

La Romana, Dominican Republic.- Tourism minister Francisco Javier García and Central Romana Corp. executive vice president Ramon Menendez on Monday signed an agreement to strengthen the competitiveness and coordinate infrastructure projects in the Bayahibe-Dominicus resort area.

The pact provides management to establish a shoreline plaza to organize the area’s vendors, boost the area’s economy and offer tourists higher quality services.

Garcia said the public-private cooperation agreement will allow the visitors to receive adequate and better service at the destination.

He said strategic planning will define a tourism model for the area from the Chavon river to Palmilla beach in the National Park of the East, including infrastructure to support the destination.

Menendez said Central Romana will donate the land needed to build a new bus parking lot on as many as 12,000 square meters, and a new cemetery north of the present one.

He said bathymetric and marine studies will be conducted to determine the technical specifications of a pier to organize tourist boats to the National Park and his company will also provide the materials to build a breakwater and pilings to recover the beach north of Punta de Bayahibe.
