Dominican Republic’s most pristine beach ready for development

Santo Domingo.- The government Thursday night revealed the Tourism Management Plan with sustainable development projects in the Enriquillo Region, comprised of Bahoruco, Independencia, Barahona and Pedernales province, home to Dominican Republic’s most pristine beach, Bahia de las Aguilas.

In a speech to introduce the plan, Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo said Executive Order 186-15 will promote the project through a tourism infrastructure and real estate development trust for Pedernales. “This trust will convene a public and transparent selection processes which will choose those private groups interested in promoting commercial and ecologically sustainable tourism development.”

President Danilo Medina headed the unveiling ceremony at the National Palace, where Montalvo also announced another executive order which creates the Tourism Cabinet to coordinate development actions in Enriquillo Region.

76 millions square meters

Tourism minister Francisco Javier García said the plan will initially entail the 14-kilometer beachfront from Pedernales to the spot known as La Cueva, while 76 million meters are available for tourism development across the region.

Environment Bautista Rojas also participated in the event.


Medina was accompanied by relatives of the late Titles Registrar Piky Lora y, including journialists Huchi Lora and Patricia Solano, and Laura Acosta Lora, the attorney who represted the State in the case which recovered the titles for Bahía de las Águilas.
