Dominican Government adds soldiers to police patrols
Santo Domingo.- The ´Peace for Christmas´ operation will start across the country today Friday with 1,200 additional soldiers deployed in the joint patrols with the National Police, Defense minister Máximo Muñoz announced Thursday.
The official said the measure to add the military to the joint patrols aim to secure public safety during the yearend holidays.
Last week police chief Nelson Peguero said as many as 15,000 troops will patrol the streets during the holidays.
Both officials spoke at a meeting to coordinate the measures to be implemented in the operation.
