Danilo Medina visits Sosua
In the newspaper Hoy, Oct 26th, an extensive report appeared about the visit of President Danilo Medina to Sosúa. It was especially a remarkable speech by Andrés Pastoriza, the president of ADSSosúa, which attracted attention. He asked the President to help fight prostitution in Puerto Plata, Sosúa and Cabarete. According to Andrés Pastoriza an intervention from the government is urgently required to bring a solution for the growing problem caused by prostitution.
He also asked for realization of the construction of the public hospital for the Sosúa region, and to start the construction of the shopping plazas at the entrances of the beach of Sosúa. Furthermore, he asked for the renovation of the center of Cabarete and the completion of the water treatment plant in Cabarete. Pastoriza also said that tourism in Sosúa and Cabarete has deteriorated by 50%. Many hotels have closed their doors and a recovery plan requires the most urgent attention of the government. All these recovery plans will also generate many jobs and economic growth for the region, which is a good considering the high unemployment rate among the population. The president replied that he takes the problems seriously and that Sosúa and Cabarete have his attention.
