Cruise ship Carnival Splendor with 3000 passengers and 1150 crew arrived on Tuesday
PUERTO PLATA With the arrival on Sunday of the Queen Mary 2, the largest and most luxurious in maritime history, Puerto Plata, “The Bride of the Atlantic” accelerates the pace of the influx of cruise passengers since the opening of the Amber Cove Cruise Terminal in Maimon.
Early Tuesday morning (Nov 24, 2015) the port received the cruise ship Carnival Splendor with 3002 passengers and 1150 crew members.
It is recalled that last weekend, the Amber Cove Cruise Terminal in Maimon, Puerto Plata, dressed up for the visit of the president of Panama; Juan Carlos Varela Rodriguez, who along with Dominican President Danilo Medina Sanchez and the Minister of Tourism; Francisco Javier García Fernández, found first-hand the positive experience of cruise tourism in the modern terminal.
This terminal nestled in the beautiful and historic Bay of Maimon built with an investment of 85 million dollars for a multinational company Carnival Corporation is located about 15 minutes from the capital municipality Puerto Plata and it was inaugurated on November 2, 2015, in which opening ceremony, the Minister of Tourism said: “This port is leaving a social economic impact, not only for this province but for the north of the Dominican Republic”.
Minister García Fernández said this terminal has been opened at the best moment for the Dominican tourism, so in the first year of operation there was an increase by more than 80% of cruise ships arrival to the country.
