Credit card balances rise
According to consulting firm Analytica-RD, credit card purchase balances increased by 14% in February 2015 compared to the same month last year with an increase of RD$4.03 billion and a total balance of RD$33.86 billion.
The average monthly balance over the last year was RD$31 billion. Even though the balance has increased, the actual number of cards has decreased by 174,347. At the end of February, 1,860,111 credit cards were in circulation of which 1,330,596 were classic cards, 401,046 gold cards and 115,195 platinum cards.
When it comes to the currencies, 83% of the balances were in Dominican pesos and the rest in foreign currency.
