Cocoa Trail Project and Santo Domingo’s Cathedral Voted the Most Popular Sites in the DR
The country’s most popular Cocoa Trail, situated outside the centrally-located city of Francisco de Macoris, and Santo Domingo’s Cathedral – the first to be built in the Americas – were voted among the 10 most popular places in the Caribbean by Trip Advisor’s Travellers’ Choice Awards 2015.
The Cocoa Trail
The popular travel website recently placed the Cocoa Trail in fifth place on the list of the most popular tours in the Caribbean. The tour to the “La Esmeralda” farm, owned by the Rizek family and situated in the city of San Francisco de Macoris, in the country’s central region, is the best place to learn everything there is to know about the world of chocolate.
The tour provides participants with all there is to know about the “food of the gods.” The tour includes a visit to an organic cocoa farm, a visit to a nearby chocolate factory, a chocolate tasting session and a delicious Dominican lunch. The four hour tour begins at 10:30 a.m., and includes transportation. For more information: www.cacaotour.com.
First Cathedral of the Americas
In 2014, the first Cathedral of the Americas was also included on the list of the top 10 most popular attractions of the Caribbean by the Travellers’ Choice awards.
The Cathedral of Santo Domingo was built to honor St. Mary of the Incarnation and is the oldest in America. It was the seat of the first Diocese of Santo Domingo. It is situated in the very heart of Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone.
