Cable car transportation for Santo Domingo
Consorcio Poma-J. Fortuna has won the tender for the construction of the first public transportation cable car that will take passengers from eastern Santo Domingo to western Santo Domingo. The contract is for RD$3.07 billion, as reported in Diario Libre.
The winning companies say they have had experience building the Medellin Metrocable Line K in Colombia, the Metrocable Filas de Mariche Expreso in Venezuela, the Teleferico do Complexo do Alemao in Brazil and the Taipei City Maokong in Taiwan.
The runner-up bid was submitted by Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GMBH for an additional RD$270 million.
There will be cable car stations in Gualey, Los Tres Brazos, Sabana Perdida and Av. Charles de Gaulle. The construction is scheduled to take 14 months from the signing of the contract.
The project is part of a major transportation network that includes connections with a new river bus system and the Santo Domingo metro for residents of lower income areas in northern and eastern Santo Domingo, connecting it with the more affluent National District, all part of Greater Santo Domingo.
