Cabarete marches against the abuses of the CESTUR and Tourism office
Cabarete.- The Monday morning hundreds of people united to march peacefully to protest against abuses by the Regional Tourism Office and the CESTUR.
According www.detrasdelrumor.com.do reporters, while the demonstration progressed peacefully through downtown of Cabarete shouting slogans against Lorenzo Sancassani, Head of the Regional Office, the participants were brutally repressed by members of the National Police who attacked them with pepper gas, many members even had fun while attacking defenseless and unarmed protesters, shooting pepper spray in the eyes of defenseless women.
Among the complaints are that CESTUR bars in the downtown of Cabarete on the right side of the street are forced to close their doors at 12 midnight, and restaurants on the beach at 3 am; another decision that prompted the protests is the decision not to allow in Playa Cabarete traditional activities during semana Santa, which were performed for 30 years there (tents, stages for activities and games, the installation of small houses campaigns and presentation of local groups, indigenous music).
