Busy month for 911
In the month of July, the National 911 Emergency System attended to 25,684 cases of which 3,958 were people with critical health conditions and 2,400 for traffic accidents.
Breaking down the official statistics even further, there were 1,891 cases of people experiencing breathing difficulties; 1,677 domestic violence cases; 1,606 for physical threats or aggression; 1,591 callers reported were reported persons unconscious; 1,211 reports of endangerment and there were 1,208 gynecological and obstetric cases.
The Emergency System received calls involving 1,022 people who had fallen; 914 injuries; 846 fires and 830 people with chest pains were reported. As far as noise was concerned, there were 8,408 complaints of excessive noise, leading to the police confiscating 2,184 stereo systems. Security cameras throughout Santo Domingo that are linked to the 911 System, recorded 1,235 incidents where crimes were prevented, suspects identified and traffic problems solved.
Unfortunately, bogus or prank calls continue to be a problem for the Emergency System authorities, with 42 people having been prosecuted by district attorneys, leading to nine individuals who have been sentenced.
