Brewers announce seven international signings

MILWAUKEE — The Brewers announced deals Tuesday with seven international signees including catcher Jose Sibrian and outfielder Jesus Lujano, each of whom received six-figure bonuses.’s Jesse Sanchez had previously reported that Sibrian signed for $550,000 and Lujano for $350,000. Both players are from Venezuela and were scouted by Fernando Veracierto. The Brewers also signed shortstop Luis Avila and catcher Moises Perez from Venezuela, right fielder Bryan Connell from Panama, and shortstops Aaron Familia and Luis Manon from the Dominican Republic.

“We are excited to add these young players to our farm system and are eager to see their development throughout the course of their careers,” Brewers Director of Latin America Scouting Manny Batista said in the team’s announcement.

All seven players have reported to the Brewers’ academy in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic.

Last year, the Brewers spent $3.1 million to sign Dominican shortstop Gilbert Lara. He batted .313 with 17 RBIs in his first 23 games for rookie-level Arizona.
