Barahona-Enriquillo road rebuild goes at quick pace

Santo Domingo.- The Public Works Ministry on Thursday said reconstruction of the Barahona-Enriquillo highway (southwest) advances quickly as equipment and crews have repaved more than 15 of the road’s nearly 47 total kilometers.

It said the highway has also been widened and will have a 20-year life span. “The work starts at the coastal overlook located in the entrance to the town of Enriquillo, and will conclude at the entrance of Barahona, with a total of 46.8 kilometers long with various work sites throughout the route.”

Public Works said more than 90 percent of the mountain, coastal-type road to will be widened from 6 to 11 meters; will have 7-meter wide lanes and will have 3-inch thick asphalt with design speed of 40-45 kilometers per hour.

Public Works adds that the road will also feature several observation points and dikes.
