Another robbery at Las Americas cargo
A large amount of merchandise of undetermined value has been stolen by persons unknown from the No. 16 warehouse at the Punta Caucedo cargo terminal at Las Americas International Airport, Listin Diario reports.
According to Criminal Investigation Department (DICRIM) officers and Customs intelligence agents, the thieves took a large number of cases containing jewelry, cell phones, computers, laptops, tennis shoes and expensive clothes.
They broke in through a hurricane shutter that separated the warehouse from the auction storage area belonging to Customs before cutting through the security padlocks on the cages where the high-value merchandise was stored awaiting collection by the owners.
Customs and Dicrim agents took fingerprints and checked the security cameras, but the thieves were wearing masks. They apparently arrived and left in a vehicle parked near the fence that protects the storage area.
This is the third robbery in the Punta Caucedo cargo storage area in recent months.
