The Samana-Santo Domingo expressway is a beautiful road where many drivers blatantly ignore the speed limits. Road signs that indicate 50 km max on curves and 80 km max speed limits on the rest of the road are routinely disregarded. Thus, on Saturday, 27 June 2015, another tragic accident occurred. Five deaths and two persons were injured in a frontal crash between a car and a SUV at Km. 55.
The deceased were identified as 30-year old Felix Jimenez Perez, 46 year old Gloria Encarnacion Aguiar, 64 nyear old Valentin Jimenez, 8 year old Brendy Nicole Jimenez Aguiar, and an unidentified man. The injured are Hector Vladimir Frias Nin and Eunice Maria Sosa Gomez who were taken by air ambulance to a city clinic.
Spokesman for the Amet, Diego Pesqueira said that the five were driving in a white Toyota Corolla from Samana to Santo Domingo and the two inured were in the Volkswagen SUV driving in the opposite direction. Amet said that preliminary reports are that the car slid in a rain puddle into the opposite lane. The motorist was driving above the speed limit.
This tragic accident occurred two weeks after another fatal accident on the expressway that caused the death of 13 and leaving 24 injured when a passenger bus crashed into an Isuzu truck at Km. 30 on 11 June 2015.
