Amber Cove is the hope to revive Puerto Plata region
PUERTO PLATA – As time goes by, the hope of awakening Puerto Plata is increasingly linked to the operations of the cruise terminal “Amber Cove” built in Maimon. Entrepreneurs are promoting this project to residents in communities near the terminal, waiting for the revival of tourism and the improvement of their economy.
Jose Negron, who is the director of development of the company Carnival Corporation, said that the arrival of the ship “Victory” is expected on Wednesday, October 6th, 2015, and that will be the beginning of the awakening of tourism in Puerto Plata. The cruise is scheduled to arrive at port “Amber Cove ” at 10AM and leave at 5PM with 2, 700 passengers on board.
Negron said that in the first full year 2016, the arrival of some 350,000 cruise passengers will create 450 direct jobs in the area of Maimon, Puerto Plata which has triggered the positive expectations since according to made each cruise passenger will consume $ 75 per day and this insurance will impact the economy and will be the awakening of Puerto Plata.
For the month of October only, it anticipates the arrival of three ships, and during the month of December – 10 ships. It was learned that official opening of the “Amber Cove” terminal will happen with the arrival of the first ship – early October, with the presence of the President Danilo Medina, who will formally open operations of the tourist terminal which is considered one of the most modern in the world.
On the premises of the cruise terminal “Amber Cove” Maimon, a group of busy workers and technicians are finalizing few details such as the completion of the pools and equipment stores by their owners. Recently they conducted a tour of about 22 journalists from major American media’s – the New York Times and USA Today.
