84,000 foreigners legalized under PNRE
Interior and Police Minister Jose Ramon Fadul says that to date, 84,000 temporary or permanent residence cards have been handed over to foreigners who registered in the National Foreigner Legalization Plan (PNRE) during the 18-month period that expired in June 2015.
He said that yesterday, Tuesday 1 September 2015 another 1,000 temporary permits were handed over to farm workers in Valverde (Mao) province. According to the minister, these 1,000 cards were in addition to the 84,000 that have been issued in the 25 offices nationwide and that around 110,000 cards are yet to be issued to 288,466 people who registered. Of this total, 210,000 qualified for residence permits, while 78,000 did not meet the requirements.
Fadul said that deportations of people who are in the country illegally are continuing and that human rights are being respected during the process.
