600,000 young Dominicans are neither studying nor working
Darwin Caraballo, the executive director of Educa, a private sector initiative to promote education in the Dominican Republic, says that a report that shows that around 600,000 young Dominicans are neither studying nor working is a cause for concern.
He said that the national vocational training program called “Quisqueya Believes in You” has reached 18,000 young people and 6,000 have already graduated from technical courses after acquiring skills that are in demand by companies.
He added that the program was aimed at training 32,000 young people over a three-year period with the aim of reducing unemployment among this age group.
