288,466 foreigners applied for legalization program
Santo Domingo.- Interior and Police minister Jose Ramon Fadul on Thursday said during the 18 months since the government’s alien legalization program began, 288,466 foreigners applied, or 78,000 more than the 210,000 projected.
He said 102,940 foreigners registered with a birth certificate; 69,997 with an ID; 95,164 with a passport and 20,345 without documents, but with biometric data.
Nonetheless the official warned that registry doesn’t mean that a foreigner’s file is complete, “so that we’re clear on that.”
“The second phase begins with within 45 days to evaluate who have deposited their records, so they can complete the remaining documents and, from these, the Ministry of Interior and Police ensures an evaluation as to who deserves the status of immigrant,” the official said.
