11 of basic products get price increase
PUERTO PLATA In the month of July and the first half of August, the price on platanos rose by 7.57%, by 2.62% on fresh chicken, cassava – 4.45%, red onions – by 12.33%, guineos verdes 4.64%, 10.71% yams, red beans 2.16%, pumpkin 11.36%, 12.45% – tomatoes.
These data were confirmed by information provided yesterday by the Central Bank, which presented the report of inflation, measured by the Variation of Price Index (CPI) in July and so far in August as according to figures, seasonal fruits rose by 10.81% and pineapple by 12.46% .
Overall, looking at these items and other economic activities that measures by the Central Bank, for example, transport, inflation in July was 0.24% compared to June 2015, which placed the cumulative inflation for the first seven months the year (January-July) at 0.85%.
It stresses that within the group “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” (which together increased 1.10%) had price declines in avocados (-5.74%), sour lemons (-11.54%) and pinto beans (-2.09%) .
Finally, the Central Bank’s report surprisingly does not refer to adverse effects on agricultural items due to extensive drought in the country.
